And it happens again...

In the blink of an eye, another fantasy star goes down to an injury. This time it's the unquestioned lead back for the Green Bay Packers, Ryan Grant. I, along with I'm sure most of you reading this, hate to see injuries impact the game.

However, when these injuries happen, it opens up a feeding frenzy on the waiver wire. Everyone is trying to figure out if they are going to be able to pick up Brandon Jackson, the heir apparent to Grant who also happened to look very good in relief at Philadelphia on Sunday. Or maybe you won't be able to get Jackson, but there is Peyton Hillis...maybe Legedu Naanee...maybe Eddie Royal...maybe Nate Washington. In the world of fantasy football, this is part of what makes it so fun: you never know who the next breakout fantasy star is going to be.

Last year, it was guys like Jamaal Charles, Jerome Harrison, Shonn Greene, LeSean McCoy, etc who filled in and came on big and helped me and probably you win a championship or 2 when you were able to win the rush to the wire. Then there are the guys like Miles Austin and Pierre Garcon, who finally get their chance and run with it. Who could that be this year? Jacoby Jones of the Texans? Jabar Gaffney in Denver? These and several other WR's could potentially be this year's Austin.

And THIS I think is one of the biggest reasons why fantasy football more than any other fantasy sport is so hugely popular. Yes, there's no argument that football is the most popular sport in the country. But, the "rush" and the sense of satisfaction when you are able to uncover that hidden gem that is going to turn into fantasy gold is what makes football so much fun.

You have to think that next week will have another injury to a superstar that will thrust another back up into the limelight for a chance at fantasy stardom.

As unfortunate as it is for the star and their fantasy owner, it makes it exciting for fantasy owners.

As a side note, speedy recovery to Ryan Grant...hopefully he comes back stronger and better than ever.
